Volunteer at Sevier County Animal Shelter

Give your time. Change a life.

Volunteers are the heart of Sevier County Animal Shelter. Our organization could not exist without the dedication, compassion, and hard work of people who choose to show up for animals in need.

When you volunteer at Sevier County Animal Shelter, you help provide animals with comfort, enrichment, and human connection while they wait for their forever homes. Volunteers also play a vital role in supporting our staff, assisting the public, and helping us promote responsible pet ownership throughout our community.

Why volunteer with us?

Volunteering makes a real, visible difference.

Spending time with animals helps reduce stress, improves socialization, and can increase an animal’s chances of adoption. Beyond hands-on animal care, volunteers help us extend our mission into the community through events, outreach, and education.

Whether you’re passionate about animals, looking to give back locally, or fulfilling service requirements, there’s a place for you here.

Sevier County Animal Shelter needs volunteer support every day. All potential volunteers are asked to complete a volunteer questionnaire so we can learn more about your interests, availability, and comfort level.

Our goal is to match you with volunteer opportunities that are meaningful, enjoyable, and aligned with your strengths while making a positive impact for animals.

Minor Volunteer Opportunities: It's never too early to get a head start on loving and assisting pets in need! To volunteer in a shelter, minors must be 9 years or older. Minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a legal guardian to volunteer. Minors 16 years and older can volunteer independently with guardian consent.

Youth Group Opportunities: We love partnering with youth clubs and school groups for scheduled volunteer sessions or tours! Groups are restricted to 12 children per session (not including chaperones). Email volunteerwithsacc@gmail.com to get your group scheduled.

Adult Group Opportunities: We love coming together with groups, clubs, and other local businesses for group volunteer days! Email volunteerwithsacc@gmail.com to get a volunteer day scheduled!

Community Service Opportunities: Whether you are looking to volunteer for school requirements, work study programs, or need to complete court-ordered service hours, we offer service programs as short or long-term as needed! Service members are required to confirm with individual programs to ensure hours earned apply to their program requirements.

Day Trips: Take a shelter pet on a day trip. Walk-ins welcome during business hours. To arrange a Morning Day Trip, email our receptionist at infoatseviercoshelter@gmail.com

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers can assist in a wide variety of ways, including:

  • Animal Care Team: Work alongside staff to provide care and love to shelter pets by assisting with kennel cleaning, walking dogs, feeding pets, and more!

  • Enrichment Team: Help shelter pets destress and relax while they wait for their next furever by putting together puzzles, games, and long-lasting snacks for pets to enjoy in their kennels.

  • Transport Team: Help us get pets and supplies to various appointments in and out of town. Shelter vehicles provided! Must have a valid DL and be 18 years or older.

  • Auction Team: Help process and organize donations to go into our weekly Silent FB Auction, poshmark or yard sales. All proceeds from these volunteer-led projects go towards our Medical Care Fund.

  • Shelter Keepers: Want to help homeless pets, but walking dogs might be too much? We rely on dedicated volunteers daily to help keep laundry and dishes going, keep donations and stock organized, repair toys, and do handyman work, so staff can focus more on the animals!

  • Adoption Assistants: Work alongside our team of adoption counselors to help greet and direct visitors, enter paperwork, and assist in facilitating adoptions!

  • Administrative VFH (Vol From Home): We have a variety of administrative needs that can be completed in shelter or in the comfort of your own home! From updating animal photos, data entry, and writing thank you cards, the opportunities (and needs) are endless!

  • Event Team: Join our team in planning, coordinating, and attending various shelter events throughout the year! From goat yoga to adoption events, we rely on kind and outgoing volunteers to ensure every event is a hit!

  • Community Engagement Team: Work alongside our Engagement Coordinator to help spread the word and connect with local businesses for various shelter initiatives like events, donation drives, and more on social media and in person!

  • Offsite Cat Care Team: Help provide care and love to adoptable pets at PetSmart and Co-op, as well as help facilitate adoptions to interested families!

Day Trip Program

Our Day Trip Program allows approved volunteers to take a shelter dog out for a few hours (just like checking out a library book) and return them the same day.

This program is perfect for people who can’t adopt but still want some tail-wagging time and meaningful connection.

Field trips give dogs:

  • Exercise and enrichment

  • One-on-one attention

  • A break from the shelter environment

And yes… they usually come back happy and ready for a nap!

Day Trip Highlights

  • Visit parks, dog-friendly walking trails, restaurant patios, or go on a Starbucks pup cup run

  • Help dogs socialize in real-world settings

  • Take photos that help showcase dogs for adoption

  • Enjoy time together with no long-term commitment

What You Need to Know

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old, or accompanied by a parent or guardian

  • Dogs must remain on leash and under adult supervision at all times

  • Please avoid dog parks, as they can be overwhelming for shelter dogs

  • Dogs should be kept separate from personal pets

  • A valid ID is required

We’ll provide a leash and a “go bag” stocked with essentials like water, waste bags, and shelter business cards. If you meet someone interested in adopting, simply direct them to us; bonus points for great photos!
